Link to Pink Does Not Disappoint (Blog 3)

It could not get much better than this.

On a special night in the O’Dome in front of a sell-out crowd, the Gators hit many milestones. Senior Sierra Alexander scored a career high on vault, sophomore Leah Clapper scored a career high on beam, and the Gators won back-to-back regular season SEC championships.

It was the 14th annual “Link to Pink” meet. The #2 Florida Gators defeated the #8 Alabama Crimson Tide by a score of 198.050 to 197.450. The Gators scored the highest all-around on beam, earning a 49.675. All five individual scores were 9.9 and above.

As part of the pink theme, the meet also featured recognition and honoring of breast cancer survivors. Both gymnasts and fans alike were decked out in various shades of pink to show their support.

Trinity Thomas once again had a great night. All of her individual scores were a 9.9 or higher, but it was still Alexander and Clapper who stole the show.

Despite Alabama coming up short, they claimed two event titles: vault with 49.325 and an individual high score of 9.975, and floor with 39.350 and an individual high score of 9.925.

Even through all of the excitement, once again Nya Reed’s energy and personality was missed. Hopefully the sophomore will return to the lineup next week.

The Gators now sit at 8-0 on the season. They have already clinched the SEC, even though they have three meets left, including one against SEC rival Georgia, which is next weekend.

The Gators remain away in two weeks, traveling to Penn State. They will return to the O’Dome for the final home meet of the season and Senior Night on March 13th when they take on Texas Woman’s University at 6:45 pm.

  1. Carly, congrats to the Gators on the SEC Championship! I’ve noticed several phenomenal routines from this season that have gone viral, and it’s really neat to see the community come together for a meet like this. It sounds like it’s been a special season so far. Rooting for the Gators the rest of the way!
